Online Dating

Are you considering dating online?

Online dating has become a fun and convenient way to meet new people within your community and beyond. However, it is essential to prioritize your safety

Below are a few safety tips:

  • Dating Apps. There are many dating apps available so conduct research and read online reviews prior to choosing a platform. Ensure you are using strong and unique passwords.

  • Protect Your Personal Information. Do not share your personal information like bank accounts, home address, or social security number.

  • Don’t Get Scammed. Do not send or wire money even if the individual says they will return the funds. Do not purchase gift cards. It’s a red flag if the individual claims to be in a difficult situation.

  • Don’t Get Catfished. Prior to meeting, consider scheduling a video call as this can help verify a person’s identity.

  • Face to Face Meet Up. I strongly recommend meeting in a public place. Let a friend or family member know your plans and where you are going.

Above all trust your instincts. Report any suspicious activity to the online dating platform. Or you can report via Internet Crime Complaint Center at https://www.ic3.gov/.
